Its been over a week since The Division has been released to the public and i can safely say that so far this is surpassing my expectations with the quality of the game. I've currently just made it to level 15 in the game and for me i have mixed both solo and co op play. I’ve been reading some other commenters mention ho well realised New York is represented in this game and while no a native New Yorker i have been fortunate enough to visit it several times and i can honestly say its amazing. While wandering on a way to a mission with some of my co op buddies i notice that we have stumbled on the Byrant Park. I had stayed in a hotel near here and sure enough i was able to find the hotel building accurately represented. Stunning detail is all i can say.
I had previously mentioned some initial thoughts in my piece about the beta and while at that stage i wasn’t blown away with the game at that stage, my opinion has been changed since full release. This game in coop is how i wanted and expected Destiny to be. The match making system is great and you can initiate this in a number of ways either at safe-houses scattered throughout the map or at the beginning of each mission. It makes finding similar level friends to play the game with easier. the mission difficulty scales well and the gunplay on coop is excellent. One criticism is that the difficulty scales to the highest ranked player which if you play with some very dedicated people means you can be easily out powered but the enemy type because one of your friends is a much higher level. I hope Ubi can do something to address that issue.
The levelling of your character is quite detailed with multiple stats feeding into you character levelling. The loot drops are great and really seem to help higher your character especially after the bigger missions. I've not experienced a common destiny issue where the loot you receive is useless due to it being worse than your current character level.
Story wise i'm really enjoying the overall concept of a virus outbreak destroying the modern social structures and you being a hidden sleeper agent been called in to help restore order. Throughout the game there are some beautifully render cutscenes that move this story on and open your eyes up to some of the horror that this new world has evoked in humans. I'm very much looking forward to continuing through the main story mission and yet to delve into the PVPVE Darkzone area. I want to be a higher level before i really get in there.
One area of potential concern for the long term of the Divison might be the enemy variety. While fine for the moment after a few months it might not hold the same drawn and i think new enemy types will need to be introduced but within the realistic Tom Clancy setting i'm not too sure how this can be achieved. Despite my gripes with Destiny, the universe did allow for new enemy types to be created. I'll be interested to see how Ubi tackle this.
Overall i’m really enjoying my time with The Division and it definitely has got its hooks into me. I’ll do one final update when i’ve completed the main campaign and got my teeth a bit more into he dark zone perhaps the first Incursions DLC will be out by then i can add my thoughts on that too.
